Tourist Visit at Pune

On the last day at Pune, we decided to explore Pune. I had been posted to Pune many years back. From mid 1985 to end 1988. Those days one never had the time to visit many of the tourist places, as one was very busy with studies, subsequently teaching the Post Graduate students and also looking after the family. Tourism used to be far away from the mind. But this time I thought I would atleast visit some of the signature places of Pune. Here is what we did on this day. The day started with a walk with Nilkanth on the Nyati County. Very refreshing and good walk.

Subsequently for breakfast to Jyoti Restaurant. Here's what we sampled. Jyoti is a very nice joint for all meals, we could enjoy only the breakfast.
Happy people entering Jyoti for breakfast.
Some photos of the great breakfast.
Cheese Paper Masala Dosa - Wow

Onion Paper Masala Dosa and Lassi - Really tasty
We then started on our way by a local taxi to visit Pune. The first stop was Shinde Chhatri. Some pictures. A

Shinde Chhatri- Very well maintained
Thereafter we visited Kalpana's niece at the Symbiosis International Institute. Viman Nagar. She had just finished her examinations and was very excited.
Symbiosis Hostel - Very well maintained.
We then moved on to visit the Aga Khan Palace. Another very well maintained place and a must visit for anyone coming to Pune. Gandhiji was kept here during the period the British arrested him. The tomb of Kasturba is here, as she breathed her last here. Some pictures.

Now from here we went to the Shaniwarwada. We had during our earlier tenure crossed this historical place a number of times, but never had the time to go inside and see the place. It is a interesting place to see as to how the Peshwas lived and ruled from here. Some pictures

We had during our earlier times gone and seen the Dagdu Sheth Halwai Ganpati temple. But coming back after almost 30 years, it has changed fully but it was a great experience to get the blessings at the temple.

We then visited a most interesting place, the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum. A museum based on the collections of one individual. Amazing. Not very much publicised and lost in the bylanes of Pune, it is really a very interesting place and a must visit for all tourists. Here parts of Mastani Mahal have been brought from elsewhere and displayed in natural surroundings.

Any visit to Pune is not complete without visiting the Chitale Bandhu shop. It was a great experience buying sweets in this historical place. I learnt a new technology out here. They give you a coupon on entering on which as you buy items the costs are electronically added. At the end of the visit at the payment counter you go ahead and submit the coupon and pay the bills.

We then were very tired and the last stop on our tourist day, before we caught our bus back to Nagpur was the Chatur Shringi Temple. One has to go up more than 130 steps to get to pray to the Mata.

The day had come to an end. Looks like we could not go and see more than 5 % of the places that Pune has to offer. We decided that we shall be back soon to explore more of Pune.
Thanks to Nilkanths, Jenas for inviting us and providing us this opportunity of seeing Pune as a tourist.
At the end, we also visited the St. Patrick Cathedral during the commencement of our tour of Pune. The last picture from this place. This is the Church where Rushil and Aaneema got married and said "I do". God bless them and may they have a long and happy married life.
